Oi! Oi!
Anyway, I wanted to do a picture like this, but the original idea was to use russian formalists, and call it "formalism is not dead" instead... turns out russian formalists don't have as cool beards as you might expect, so where to turn? Marx of course! One of the greatest beards in the modern age!
As for the technical stuff, I did it in Painter 9, with several reference photos. You might recognise the one I used for Marx, it's pretty common I think. Noise and text was added in Photoshop.. it's a bit sad I had to resize it so much to make it a manageable size, the original is almost twice as big, and I really like the stroke details.. but nevermind.

Best beards indeed. I only wish I'd studied more forms of government/economics so I could get the message. the "marxism is not dead" text is put on there greatly.

Don't worry, I'm no marxist myself... actually, I generally dislike marxist theory, in all its bastardisations (that Karl Marx had very little to do with). I don't think of it as an image that has any particular meaning to convey, it's just a fun picture, like Einstein with Kiss-paint. Hey, I think I'll do that!
Darth Vader never got a beard... nor did the evil stepmothers in various adventures. This concludes the analysis, there are no truly evil people with beards.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
